The Purpose of this site.

A warm greeting to you all, and a special hello to those of you I haven't yet had the privilege of meeting. I will look forward to your visits. You may wonder, what is the purpose of my site? The purpose is to offer information and I hope to some degree, friendship, in a relaxing, honest, and somewhat respectful way. The information here is for you to share. I want to help and of course I want to sell my book.
I am author, editor, publisher and sole distributor of From Pioneer Kitchens to Modern-day Al Girvan's Canadian Heritage Cook Book.
Cooking is an exciting art, science, and technology, it is very relevant to human life and personal experience, and is always embracing new information. My goal for the first edition is to convey this excitement by helping the reader, student, or experienced cook understand this science and technology, and to truly appreciate the art of cooking.
My father's family came from around Girvan Scotland.
My mother's family was from Barrie and Orillia Ontario; where they had lived for several generations before moving to Alberta.
I was born to 1940 rural Alberta (Winterburn area just outside of Edmonton). Full electricity, running water, and telephone were things only hoped for; and of course there was no TV so the old way of life was still quite common. I grew up in and around Edmonton. My wife grew up near a small town in the rural Peace River area of Alberta.
Whether you lived in the city or in the country; in those days you tried to raise your own eats (those that could not be gathered wild), and that went for meats also (many city dwellers raised a few chickens, almost all had a garden, and if you lived near the out-skirts, it was not unheard of to raise a hog or two). What you couldn't raise you would try to shoot and I would venture to say that every man, woman, and child, on both sides, had some knowledge of how to set a hen, skin a rabbit, fire a rifle, hitch a horse, and butcher a hog. It was the way of life--it was survival.
Fortunately, because my mother and grandmothers started teaching me at an early age; that combined with two years training at The Southern Alberta Institute of Technology; experience gained through owning a small hotel and restaurants, plus many years spent working in the kitchens of major hotel chains or working as a camp cook in the Canadian arctic; I have an excellent base on which to build. More than a textbook, I hope this volume will present a fascinating picture of people trying to understand each other, themselves, the world, and as the title reads "Canadian Heritage".
Anyone can become a wizard in the kitchen or around the camp fire with this fascinating and unusual book. Even the novice will be able to turn out exotic delights; the experienced cook will find inspiration and challenge in the wide variety of methods, recipes, and ethnic foods offered.
If you want a cookbook that has everything-glamour, ease of preparation, economy, distinction, and wonderfully successful results- THIS IS IT I do not include any "slurp, burp and dash" recipes. For this I do not apologize, but if that is what you are looking; then this book definitely is NOT IT and my web-site is not for you.
The book is like no other.
Each section is a short course in Canadian Heritage.
Each section is a Cook Book in its self.
In its entirety, the book is also an expose, siting some of the corrupt, fraudulent and often criminal marketing practices, which can and often do, kill many Canadians.
It is presently produced in  Loose-Leaf
